Ballerina Who Loved a B-Boy

Ethereal. Otherworldly. Out of this world.   Words can't do justice to this mix of ballet and break dance-hip hop performance from Korea.   Playwright and director Choi Yunyeop did an amazing job of presenting this modern dance form to the ever-classical ballet audience in a captivating and jaw-dropping way. it's basically a hand-stand pirouette! Talk about aerial position, height and stamina. This is 90 minutes no-intermission show where all dancers present almost all the time. And it's a totally different level of effort for all  these moves. As you get washed away with awe, suddenly ballerina gets haunted by her demons for maybe to stop her falling for b-boy.  While you were thinking this show can't get any better, they haunt you too.  The eccentric moves send shivers just like when Kafka's Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic ...

coach: sent from God

one athlete, Maria Titova, shines through everyone  by showing her human side. when she was told to pack things and go home, she did after probably plus 10 years in the sport. eventually she became a champion, 5th in World ranking in 2014 season. this time i came across this gem from RT Documentary, "Winner Takes it All: Pain and Gain of Russian Rhythmic Gymnasts" i must confess, i found it very suprising that all the athletes praised the head coach, Irina Viner-Usmanova saying she was literally God sent. i think its a must-see for everyone who wonders what it takes to be great in almost anything; the long hours, unyielding resistance and pushing one's limits.

getting a glance to the corridors of Russia's renowned ballet academies: Vaganova Ballet Academy as the audience sees how hard it is to get selected, little girls and boys try to make their ways into their future. as recently appointed rector of the academy Nikolay Tsiskaridze greets the new students for the school year, parents and excited minors watch him in awe.  picture depicts how great hardships ballet actors go through so good that it can solely be regarded as a motivational movie even.  through the end Tsiskaridze himself sums up what ballet actually is: for actors it is all about excellence, not being in a fairy tale.
